As Cottage Keepers, we welcome travelers to Independence, MO by providing a comfortable, private and well-appointed guest cottage for their stay. Waldo Guest Cottage sits behind the Twyman/McGuire/Harper House (circa 1910), a Historic Landmark within the charming, walkable Truman Heritage District and is accessible to all the places guests travel here to experience.
Because the Cottage is a two blocks from the Truman Home and mere one-half mile from the Truman Library and Museum, scholars and writers traveling from around the globe are frequent guests here. We are pleased to provide home base as they further their research projects accessing the Library’s archives. Waldo Guest Cottage is equally close to the dining and entertainment on Independence Square, and it is an easy 8-mile drive to other Kansas City amenities such as Kauffman Stadium and the entertainment districts.
The property is recognized by the National Wildlife Federation as a Certified Wildlife Habitat, and the nature-supporting gardens are ever evolving to give more focus to native plants.
About the Cottage Keepers
Janiece, an Independence native, moved South in the 80s where she fell in love with and married Terry. After our wedding, we came home and stayed at a quaint cottage surrounded by gardens. Fast forward 16 years and we moved back to Independence, fell in love with a historic home in the Truman Heritage District, and now call this home. Behind our home just happens to be Stella’s Guest House, that magical place we stayed all those years ago. We reopened Stella’s as Waldo Guest Cottage in 2017.
