Independence and the Kansas City Area

Plan to stay awhile, because there's a lot to take in

Independence, Missouri is a significant destination for those interested in the history of our country. Known as the "Queen City of the Trails," Independence was the point of departure for the Santa Fe, Oregon, and California Trails. It is the hometown of Harry S. Truman, the 33rd President of the United States of America. And, it is home to the Community of Christ International Headquarters (formerly, RLDS), and a Visitors’ Center for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS).
